Hello! Before I start this post off, I want to take time to acknowledge and be grateful for all the key workers that are risking their health, safety and lives to ensure we can still access essential services. To those who have lost loved ones, I send my condolences. To those who are sick, recovering or stranded in an unprecedented time like this, I send my prayers and can only hope they get the support they need.

For those that are new here, or don’t understand my humour, I’m very sarcastic. This post is only to be light-hearted and hopefully somewhat of a distraction and help.

Now –

WTF is happening...

I’m stuck between a slight panic and psychotic calmness. As a person who hardly goes out, except for the occasional meal, or bingeing on stationery (yes, I’m a sucker for pastel highlighters and a set of fine liners with varying thicknesses. What can I say, size matters?) Right, as I was saying, as a person who rarely goes out, staying at home wasn’t really new to me. As opposed to those who are just discovering that if they stare at their bedroom wall long enough, they will actually be watching dry paint dry.

I wouldn’t say I have the urge to go outside, but I’m tired of seeing my ruffled reflection on my phone screen! I’ve jumped in and out of more IG live stories than I could ever imagine, danced to cringey tiktoks and failing miserably. I’ve watched Netflix so much that the ‘Are you still watching’ doesn’t even come up anymore.

Not to mention, my exams hang in the balance as to whether or not I will turn up to my skype sessions or actually open my overdue textbooks. Desperate times are calling for desperate measures, I might just make some ti-*gag* ti- *gag* tiktoks *welches* (I’m not making fun of tiktokers, I just find it funny how those who swear they would never get the app are practicing the savage challenge ready to upload. *hashtag me*)

As I looked back through my previous posts, I had written about how the future was ours - that we needed to take ahold of it by not wasting it. A couple months later, I had seemingly abandoned ship. I hadn’t touched wood. Had I been able to forsee to the millisecond 2020 had started, I would have touched every piece of wood and become acquaintances with Pinocchio, when he was a compulsive liar.

However, I don’t think all hope is lost. We can still try and make the most of being home alone. Maybe your inner Kevin will come out so I’ll try and keep this short.

How To Make The Most Of Lockdown

If you’re in a position where you have to work from home, it’s best to try and keep to some form of routine:

Wake up early, go to bed early (for some, that means midnight). Why? You’re more productive in the morning, not because of some fancy scientific study and brain activity, but just maybe some of your friends are just going to bed. Also, waking up late just drags out your day.

For the rest who find themselves with nothing to do, because they cannot work from home, or those who aren’t having to study – start your day off by being productive: exercise, make breakfast, get some work done, do some crafts.

As you progress into the afternoon, feel free to chill and binge through Netflix, Disney+ and whatever you do to entertain yourself. Just stay home, if you can! You can also find my Netflix recommendations here, and if you sign up to be a member (which is free btw) you can access a spicier, juicier list and other things too, if you just can’t get enough of me.

By evening, you should catch up on work, your new discovered calling to recreate a 5-minute craft video or some bizarre trend on tiktok. Have Dinner, meditate etc, something calming to finish of your day. You should also take this time to research that business plan, plan that YouTube content (check out my channel), plan that podcast, extra reading you wanted. Whatever you do, it should be something that is going to invest in your skills and build your character outside of your normal routine. It's tempting to take this time to repeat how bored and how much you miss spending money on fast food rather than now on toilet paper.

Though it might be slow, normality will return at some point and you’ll be crying how much you wish you could just take a break from all your daily chaos.

Well, that’s my two pence anyways. Feel free to download my free printable timetable to plan your non-boring day. You can find these in my inventory.

Oh, and I nearly forgot, for those who are having to homeschool their kids, it’s okay to cry a little, you’re not on your own.

To recap:

  • Create a routine & try to fix your sleeping pattern

  • Start your day off by being productive

  • Entertain yourself with the things you can access at home

  • Invest in your skills or find ways to develop them
